I’ve recently begun development on a new plugin for WordPress that will be useful to restaurant owners. I’m going to call it Daily Specials. I found a website today that allows you to list your menu and output it to almost any development environment. In fact, they already have an official WordPress plugin. The only thing it doesn’t do is add the ability to have a daily special. What if I want to feature my tri tip grilled steak on Tuesday evenings from 4PM-8PM for only $10? How do I show this on my page? Do I just write an article about it? What if I feature this every Tuesday? What if I have a new special everyday that runs for weeks at a time?
The Answer:
A custom plugin called Daily Specials. I’ll be working on the details this weekend, and I’ll probably release it by the beginning of October. Check back to get your copy.
Update:
I have just recently finished a stable version of this plugin and am now making it available to the public. Hopefully, it will soon be hosted on wordpress.org plugins repository. But until then, here’s version 1.0
This plugin does more than just a widget. It also allows for shortcode insertion of the Daily Specials into a post or page. It’s still early in production, so I don’t have much documentation. If you need to know how to use it, just ask. I’ll add documentation in the coming weeks.
Update
I have finally finished it! Download link is here. cool.
Update
I have updated a few more times and added some significant functionality to the plugin. Check out the new features! …more updates to come. Request features, and I’ll try to implement them as soon as I can!
I’m looking for the same thing – a Daily Special plugin. Did you ever get something working? Can you share what you have? Much appreciated!
Version 1.0 is now available. Sorry for the long delay. Lots of work related issues decided to get in the way of this project.
I think your plug-in might be perfect for me. My intent is to have a widget for about 8 different restaurants on my home page that updates by itself daily. How exactly do I go about using it?
Plugin is returning this error when activating……

I would try downloading a fresh copy from wordpress’ plugin page. I made some improvements in the latest release that should fix any issues you were having.
Hi Jon
Are there any examples or a demo site to see this in working.
Your URGENT reply would be greatly appreciated
I don’t know of any sites that are currently using this plugin. You could ask in the support forums on WordPress.org and see if you get anyone to tell you where they’re using it. If you have any recommendations or needs for this plugin, let me know and I’ll try to accommodate.
